What Makes a Good Gift? A Great Gift?

Tis the season for giving...

Which can be a time for causing great concern and outright stress for many, what do I get to give to [INSERT NAME] this Christmas/Birthday/Anniversary?? This is a mighty question, not to be trivialized nor exploited by mass media marketing schemes.

Giving gifts to those important to you, that will not be ignored, re-gifted, or "lost" comes down to one very important criteria...

                                        Consideration.

What does the person like, like to do, or enjoy to spend their time doing?? When you take the time and effort to truly consider the one who will receive the gift and you put them at the centre of your analysis, whatever, you eventually decide on, will be the correct gift.

Why is this true?? If you are thinking about the receiver of the gift and you ponder their likes, whatever you finally decide upon will be right, because you were thinking of that person as you made your decision.

This process cannot necessarily succeed if you wait until 1530hrs on Christmas Eve and you have a dozen important gifts to acquire. However, if you blunder one year and commit to the process early in the new year or throughout the new year, you will find this method will offer more wins than losses.

This is a card and gift I received this year:

I truly appreciate this card, as it was handcrafted and it was designed to accommodate my lack of having a Christmas Tree this year as I am far from home at the moment. I enjoy a compact tree to symbolize Christmas. This one is a big winner.

My wife made this card for me and put her whole heart into this. She finds I am a challenging person to gift. This is one gift I will cherish for as long as the paper survives and beyond.

Thank you, Dear, for finding the perfect gift!!

Until next time...think of others, and treat them well.

Mountainman.
